They’re neither pop-punk nor punk-rock nor rock-pop. They combine spiked hair and pierced lips with songs about superficiality, loss and betrayal, and their exhilarating get-up-and-dance style of music is peppered with the occasional guitar solo. They’ve opened for legends like Rancid and Aerosmith, headlined the Vans Warped Tour for two consecutive years, have been nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards…but at the end of the day, the members of Montreal-born Simple Plan are just five guys utterly devoted to their fans.

"The connection between us and our fans is the most important thing we have," explains bassist David Desrosiers. “Without them, I would probably be working a nine-to-five job that I hate,” adds guitarist Jeff Stinco. The Simple Plan lineup, which also includes vocalist Pierre Bouvier, drummer Chuck Comeau and guitarist Sebastian Lefebvre, released their debut album No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls… in Spring 2002. Still Not Getting Any… followed two years later, thrilling fans with its catchy melodies and relevant lyrics.

“Tell me what’s wrong with society
When everywhere I look I see
Rich guys driving big SUV’s
While kids are starving in the streets”

The social consciousness that makes Simple Plan so difficult to pigeonhole— evident in this excerpt from their hit song “Crazy”—also inspired the launch of the Simple Plan Foundation. This charitable organization uses grassroots awareness campaigns, fundraising and musical education to empower young people who suffer from issues like drug addiction, depression, poverty and chronic illness.

Simple Plan has also been a supporter of War Child Canada’s international humanitarian projects. The band’s involvement with War Child Canada began in 2005, when they donated an original design to War Child Canada’s Peace Card campaign. The proceeds from the sale of Simple Plan’s card went towards international projects in support of war-affected children.
