The Leadership Class at WP Wagner High School are making an effort to stand up for global justice.
This year, the students in the Leadership Class at WP Wagner High School in Edmonton, Alberta, organized a twenty-four hour bike-a-thon to raise funds for War Child Canada. The event was a huge success, raising an unprecedented $26,000! No school in North America has raised this amount before for War Child Canada within a single school year.
The business community and other high-schools also chipped-in by providing stationary bicycles and by sponsoring the event. The bike-a-thon was well attended with over 200 participants and the students at WP Wagner hope to see the fundraiser become a part of their school’s annual tradition.
When asked about the motivation that drives students to put in the work and organize such a large event, a student from the Leadership Class stated:
“The main reason is that Wagner’s Leadership Class wants to make a positive impact in the global community. They are passionate and hardworking with a multitude of goals focused on humanitarian and environmental issues; a class full of people with these goals may be capable of great things. Once the Leadership Class started promoting the cause, it was not hard for the student body to willingly support the cause as well.”
War Child Canada salutes the motivation and drive of the Leadership Class at WP Wagner High School for standing up for what they believe in and for being Noise Makers for global justice!
